Wear Plate Steel Definition

A wear plate is abrasion-resistant steel specifically designed to withstand wear caused by friction, impact, and heavy working pressures. This material has high hardness, good toughness, and a stable microstructure, making it capable of maintaining performance under extreme working conditions.

Types of Wear Plate Steel

1.Water Quench

Water quenching is a rapid cooling process for steel using water as the cooling medium after heating. This method helps increase the material’s hardness and forms a stronger microstructure as required by heat treatment.

2.Oil Quench

Oil quenching is a steel cooling process using oil as the medium to produce a more homogeneous and stable microstructure suited for the desired mechanical properties. This process helps form martensite more controllably and supports the occurrence of the TRIP effect (Transformation-Induced Plasticity) in some alloy steels. The more stable cooling results in an optimal combination of hardness, toughness, and tensile strength, making it ideal for machine components, tooling, and precision parts.

3.Structural Steel

Steel used for building construction and structural frameworks. It has high tensile strength, good toughness, and is easy to weld. It is typically used for beams, columns, and steel frames.

Grade: TS 800

4.TICO – Overlay Plate

A plate with a hard surface overlay (hardfacing overlay) designed for extreme abrasion resistance. The surface layer is highly wear-resistant, while the base plate provides structural strength.

Grades: Tico X700, Tico X750

5.Manganese Steel

Steel with 12–14% Mn, known for its work-hardening properties (becoming harder when subjected to impact). It is very tough and is suitable for applications like jaw crushers, liners, and impact-heavy operations.

Grade: TC M

6.Weathering Steel

Steel that naturally forms a protective oxide layer (patina), making it resistant to corrosion without the need for painting. It is used in bridges, facades, and outdoor structures.

Grade: Corten

7.Pressure Vessel Plate

Steel specifically designed for high-pressure vessels, boilers, and pressurized tanks. It has high toughness, resistance to internal pressure, and stability at high temperatures.

Grades: 16Mo3, A 516 Gr 70
